On May 27, the 12th World Biomaterials Congress (WBC 2024) opened in Daegu, South Korea. During the opening ceremony, Prof. Wu Aiguo, researcher at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was elected as a Fellow of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (FBSE).

Prof. Wu Aiguo, researcher and National Distinguished Young Scholar, specializes in molecular imaging probe biomaterials and related instruments and equipment. He has developed an original research system in the areas of MRI probes, ultrasound contrast imaging probes, and NPY-targeted tumor treatment visualization imaging probes and instruments. Dr. Wu has published over 300 papers, which have been cited more than 20,000 times, and has authored four monographs. He has filed 227 domestic and international invention patents, with 110 granted, and has led the development of one national standard and one industry standard. He has received prestigious awards, including the China Analytical Testing Association Science and Technology Grand Prize and the Ningbo City Science and Technology Progress First Prize. As a project leader, he has led over 40 major projects, including key R&D projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology, NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars, and China Academy of Sciences Pilot B projects. Dr. Wu has been selected for the Chinese Academy of Sciences Talent Program and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and the Royal Society of Biology (UK). He currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Academic Committee at the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering, a Director of the Chinese Society for Biomaterials, a Vice Chair of several professional committees, and a member of the Analysis Chemistry Discipline Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society.
The International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE) is a non-political, non-profit academic organization. The lifetime honorary title of "Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering" is awarded to scientists who have made outstanding contributions to the field of biomaterials science and engineering and have achieved a distinguished academic standing. This title is the highest lifetime honor for leading biomaterials experts worldwide and is awarded every four years. Currently, there are 64 experts and scholars from China who have received this prestigious title.
